In language and communication, finding the right words to convey a message is always the most difficult thing. Sometimes, as soon as you come with a sentence, the sound of those words is completely different from what you had imagined, thereby changing the original idea. In verbal communication, unfound words create incommunicability. However, in the language of art, it triggers a process that reaches our DNA, allowing us to follow the entire path through eyes, mind, heart, shape, and COLOUR, starting from the perception of the idea.
This journey is clear in the works by Adelmo Perugini. The shapes created in his mind ever since he was a schoolboy receive their input by the design of machines, medieval architecture, or landscapes discovered while travelling to his land or from his archaeology studies. He has always been fascinated by those magic places that reflect ancient civilisations and boost his imagination.
Work arrived early in his life and he soon became an outsider in the world of art. His artistic roots inherited from his grandfather and mother burst in a flash. The first archetype, an anthropomorphic shape arises in his mind creating life and mystery.
The Archetype has always accompanied the history of humankind. Every culture has an ancient symbol that manifests through a millenarian figurative tradition with a deeply rooted primitive force.
In his paintings, an iconographic sign is a universal archetypal idea, the reflection of humanity's quest to find itself, lost in the maze of time. A mental itinerary that accompanies humankind through history in its tortuous path to knowledge, which, at the same time, puts us in front of the mirror of art.
Only those who can see the reflections of the colours and shapes of a face, landscape, or symbol can travel the road of art.
Adelmo Perugini is an artist who has chosen to do art away from self-advertising attitudes or meditations around his works. He prefers to immerse himself in pure research and understanding of the instinctive, emotional, primitive side, which brings to mind colours, shapes, and archetypes that populate one's inner world and burst in the surface to their liking.
The use of various, basically textural painting techniques leads him to experimentations where colour is under the spotlight, given the chromatic intensity received by compact crosshatching without nuances. This emphasises the work, by linking the physical act of drawing the lines with the subconscious.
Strange figures appear from the earliest chromatic and textural experiments. Some of these are stubbornly the same to open a path of graphic combinations used to describe space (the horizon, a vertical line, a curve). This happens without choices or ideas first. It's all about open, dynamic, and resonant structures.
Observing any surface, we notice that a single matrix, that fertile seed gives life to a set of works connected by a field pulsating with relations, visual forces, and phenomenal vitality. Every part is connected to other parts creating infinite chromatic combinations.
The evolution of this archetypal shape does not start from scratch. It's always about going beyond appearances, seizing the unseen, finding something within ourselves, a shape of space that eyes cannot catch but can understand through the language of art.
As the artist once said: "I love the night. It's a time when you enter a new world. New sensations, new fragrances. And noises bring life to a world in the dark. In my nightscapes, stars, constellations, and planets shine bright. I paint my nights spent enjoying all sorts of sensations. Blue is the persistent colour. A colour, which I adore to brighten up with lights and nuances."
